The Four Seasons

Started by: mollie m (7161)

No, not the classical works by Vivaldi, but the four seasons of the year.

Which do you love/hate the most, and why?

My greatest hatred is Winter. Apart from cold dark mornings, and even colder darker evenings I, and many other people, suffer from SADS (Seasonal Affective Disorder Syndromes) which I can't seem to snap out of until the end of January when it starts to get lighter.

I sometimes wish I was like an old grizzly bear and go into hibernation till Spring.

Now. It is the short daylight which bugs me. It really impairs my ability to get on with outside jobs: I let out an enormous sigh of relief when we get to the solstice, even though it takes some time for significantly longer daylight to set in.

Winter is a season I want to rush out of but, I don't want to wish my time away so. I wrap up and get out a bit each day to keep the old bones working then, come in early and do my Winter hobbies and watch TV, I hate Christmas with a passion so when that's over, Its all , onwards and upwards for me,,

Tom, I'm pretty much like you. As I still work I have to get up to go there, but the weekends are a killer for me, most especially when there's snow and ice, which I don't like driving in.

I'm not keen on Christmas any longer as well as it's become just another day for me, and I even stopped putting up my little tree, which I used to do on my birthday, two weeks before Christmas, as I no longer see the point. So, once that's out of the way, I look forward to seeing the crocuses and snowdrops peeping through the ground, maybe a bit of sunshine, and know that Spring is on the way.

The seasons are mixed up When I venture into the garden there are plants which are showing their leaves already which normally would be here about late Jan or early Feb

I must be odd

Because I love winter, and the colder and gloomier it is the better, and I like looking at paintings and photographs of gloomy Victorian England, snow on the ground, folk shuffling around miserable, I mean do you remember when it was so cold, that when you came in, you had a hot bath to warm yourself up, I loved it, and I hate these mild winters.

As regard Christmas, I like the colour an the spectacle of Christmas, and there again the gloomier it is, then the more colourful Christmas is.

But I like summer and I like Autumn, but the season I hate the most is spring, when the sun is bright, but it is still cold, and I think that when that happens I am missing the 'gloom'

I'm glad to discover that I am not the only person who does not like Christmas.

I find the Christmas foodstuffs a real turn off: really do not like them.

If alone, I will probably instead dine on a sirloin joint.

A friend who I have occasionally spent Christmas with in recent years does a pescitarian option.

When I lived in Lincolnshire, I frequently had Christmas dinner with my neighbour. she was an excellent cook, so we would have pheasant in a port and plum sauce.

anything other than the dreaded turkey/mince pies/Christmas pud!

On this one, I have to agree with SD.

Not what is said, but who says it is the criteria for exclusion used on here.

It was a link to a cabaret Christmas message by Fascinating Aida, with a warning that it contained expletives. (ie not to click if such would offend)

YOU COULD ONLY BE OFFENDED IF YOU CHOSE TO BE OFFENDED!

Far worse than that have passed unchallenged on here.

Still, as they say, we know where we stand.

It doesn't surprise me that it was removed, I am sure it would have been removed whoever had posted it.

Once upon a time, tonker posted an image of a very phallic-looking statue. (I think it was located somewhere in the environs of St Helens)

I quoted the post, as a lead into a comment.

My quoting of the post got removed.

The original that I had copied remained.

QED.

But, then again,

Am I bovered

What's happened to my nice thread again? Everything was going so nicely, so what's been said that has anything to do with the seasons of the year?

In fact, I don't want to know.

I love Autumn and winter.
Everything seems so fresh, crisp, and natural outdoors.
And when you get indoors, you appreciate it more.
Nothing more relaxing than being out in the cold, then arriving home and then shutting the door.
I dont like summer and the hot weather. Everything seems so false and unatural to me.

I suppose if you like the hot weather you are going to make the most of it. Nothing wrong with that.
But, its not for me.

Cheshirecat, thank you for bringing this topic back in line.

My favourite seasons are Spring and Autumn, as those are the months when everything comes to life in Spring, and the lovely colours of Autumn on the trees.

I don't mind summer provided it doesn't get too hot because, being relatively darker skinned, I can no longer sit out in it as my older skin burns more quickly than it used to, which is a bit of a bummer.
